Non-Essential Dangerous Goods handling suspended at Shanghai after two recent fires

Following two recent fire outbreaks at Shanghai’s container terminals, the port authority has suspended land transport of containerized non-essential dangerous goods until 2nd July. This is to develop measures for improving safety while handling such cargo. The latest fire broke out at Shanghai Mingdong Container Terminals when a reefer container combusted while it was being loaded onto a vessel.

The suspension of land transport of non-essential containerized dangerous goods won’t apply to cargo required for urbanisation projects and daily essential goods. It will be applicable to commodity like Lithium batteries. Many logistics companies have said they were prohibited from transporting them.
